A fun and fabulous evening

Clients, friends and family joined our entrants to celebrate and make it a festive occasion. A new student awards category brought in youthful energy with marketing students from the Anderson School of Management. A raffle was held on-site to engage everyone in the excitement. Winners who were present had first choice to pick from prizes that included a Weekend Getaway with a NM Cultural Pass, Jewelry, Popejoy Tickets, and dinners at many fine restaurants. Jim and John Garcia, our Masters of Ceremony, kept the event crackling as they bantered their way through the awards presentation. Enjoy photos from the evening here.

Practically a native to New Mexico, Steve Christman moved from Chicago to Albuquerque in 1976. He has been hooked on photography ever since his mother gave him a camera to use on a trip, and he saw the interesting photos from the lab. He was eager to soak up everything he could about photography — he read everything he could get his hands on and was mentored by friends in the field.

Steve has attended photography courses, workshops and lectures by world renowned photographers such as Jerry Uelsmann, Galen Rowell and David Muench.

Steve’s work was published in the prestigious Photographer’s Forum Annual, Best of 2000 and Best of 2003. His work has received many acclaimed awards and has achieved some notoriety at the New Mexico State Fair, the New Mexico Field Guide to the Sandias, and other venues.

His work has been displayed in such places as Around the Corner Gallery, OK Harris Gallery, and Kokopelli’s Restaurant.

While Steve’s enthusiasm remains with the beauty and natural wonder of the outdoors, he has branched out into commercial work, portraits and weddings, as well as teaching outdoor workshops.

Del Esparza, CEO, left center, with Creative Director Adam Greenwood, Esparza Advertising, accepts the big prize, the Golden Compass for “Best of” Marketer of the Year for their NM AIDS Walk campaign. Esparza Advertising also earned a Compass in Interactive Media and in Special Event Marketing, as well as an Award of Merit in Integrated Marketing for their campaign for New Mexico AIDS Services.

Joanie Griffin accepted the Recognition of Excellence Accolade, presented by last year’s winner, John Benavidez. Joanie’s company, Griffin & Associates, also earned a Compass in Television Advertising for their New Mexico Clean & Beautiful campaign, and an Award of Merit in Integrated Marketing for the Town of Taos campaign.

With first-ever student categories, Anderson School students earn the Compass for the FBI Campaign, cheered on by Dean Douglas Brown.

There was time to network and celebrate the occasion before the ceremony.

There was also time to review the outstanding work of all the entrants. Joe Lobato, Executive Director for New Mexico Clean and Beautiful, with wife Angela, check out the Toss no Mas television spot by Griffin & Associates, which went on to earn the Compass.

Sam Maclay, Creative Director/Partner of 3 Advertising accepts the Compass in Integrated Marketing for their National Museum of Nuclear Science and History campaign.

Martha Mondragon-Guerin, Account Executive for Adelante Direct Mail, accepts the Compass in Direct Marketing for Adelante Services.

The charming duo in many of the pictures are Jim and John Garcia of Hospitotally, our capable Masters of Ceremony for the evening.

John and Jim have strong business backgrounds with extensive management experience in the hospitality industry. Together, they founded HospiTotally, an Albuquerque based consulting business that specializes in customer service applications.

Who are they? Jim and John Garcia!

John is the former Cabinet Secretary in New Mexico’s Departments of Tourism and Economic Development. As the manager of the New Mexico State Fair and the Senior Officer of Cultural Affairs, he and his brother shook up how business is done in government. He currently serves as the Director of Economic Development for the city of Albuquerque and recently accepted a Presidential Appointment to serve on the National Advisory Board for Historic Preservation.

Jim, like John, started in the Hospitality industry working for Bennigan’s and Olive Garden Restaurants. Jim currently oversees operations at El Pinto Restaurant, one of the nations largest single restaurant operations in the country. Also, Jim partners as the destination management business for Hyatt Tamaya resort in New Mexico. Jim is recognized as “Mr. Hospitality”.

Together they are passionate about creating cultures of service excellence; constantly working to maintain and improve customer service in any business culture…they are the service experts!

Enjoy uplifting folk harp music while you mingle with other marketers and review the campaigns, and as dinner begins before the program

 
Donese Mayfield enhances our evening with a program of live folk harp music. Donese has been a professional musician for many years. Classically trained on piano and organ, she discovered the Celtic harp at the age of 42.

Donese has been an active church musician playing in Presbyterian, Lutheran, Episcopal, Methodist, Unitarian, and Catholic churches, and Jewish Synagogues. She is a staff musician at the University of New Mexico Alumni Chapel, which is host to several hundred weddings each year.

Donese performs solo or in ensemble on the Celtic harp and pedal harp at public and private events. Her musical experience includes the release of two CDs with the ensemble Sweet Breeze; recording as a studio musician with several groups; and conducting folk harp workshops across the Southwest. Her two-volume teaching curriculum for adult beginners of folk harp is available through www.folkharp.com/catalog and www.applemtnmusic.com.

Get your campaigns together and prove your results by entering the 21st Annual Marketer of the Year Awards. This celebrated award recognizes and applauds New Mexico marketers for achieving outstanding results from their marketing campaigns.

Showcase your best work at the 21st Annual Marketer of the Year Awards Banquet on April 15, 2010 where winners will be announced.

The deadline for entries is February 26, 2010.

Eligibility

You don’t have to be a member of the NMAMA to submit an entry. All marketing campaigns originating in New Mexico between January 1-December 31, 2009 are eligible. Entries will be judged by the Lincoln, Nebraska chapter of the American Marketing Association.
