23rd Annual Marketer of the Year Awards | Call for Entries

The 2012 Marketer of the Year Awards Banquet will be held on April 19, 2012 at the Crowne Plaza.

Submit your campaigns by 5 pm, Friday, March 2, 2012 to be judged by the Colorado chapter-AMA.

Though you don’t have to be a member of NMAMA, all marketing campaigns must have originated in New Mexico between January 1 – December 31, 2011. Entries may be submitted in five different categories.

ABOUT OUR SPEAKER

Joanie Griffin is a 30-year PR veteran and has placed thousands of stories about her clients in such noted venues as the New York Times, the Today Show, CNN, ESPN, O Magazine and USA Today. Her early experience includes roles as a reporter and editor with the Tempe Daily News and the Mesa Tribune, as a small business consultant, and as marketing director for the Rodey Law Firm. She founded Griffin & Associates 21 years ago. Today, it is one of the leading public relations and marketing firms in the Southwest.

Griffin & Associates has been recognized with many awards over the years, including Marketer of the Year, Cumbres from the Public Relations Society of America, ADDYs from the NM AdFed and Tiaras from the Tourism Association of NM.

In October of 2010, Joanie was named a Top Performing CEO by the New Mexico Business Weekly. Recently, she received the Silver Medal, Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Advertising Federation New Mexico chapter on Friday, February 25, 2011. This is one of the highest honors ADFED can bestow!

At the 22nd Annual NMAMA Marketer of the Year Awards held on April 14, Joanie was presented with the big prize, the Golden Compass for “Best of” Marketer of the Year for the Town of Taos and Hotel Andaluz campaigns. Griffin & Associates also earned a Compass in Interactive Media and Integrated Marketing for the Town of Taos campaign, as well as a Compass in Special Event Marketing for Hotel Andaluz.

Last year, Joanie received the Recognition of Excellence Accolade Compass at the 21st Annual Marketer of the Year Awards for her contribution to marketing in the local community, in addition to other awards for their campaigns at Griffin & Associates.

The largest crowd ever of clients, friends and family joined the hard-working entrants to celebrate their efforts, joined by marketing students from the UNM Anderson School of Management. A raffle with great prizes was held on-site to engage everyone in the rewards and excitement of the evening. Jim and John Garcia, our Masters of Ceremony, kept the evening sparkling as they bantered their way through the award presentations. DJ Heckes accepted the Recognition of Excellence Accolade, presented by last year’s winner, Joanie Griffin. DJ’s company, Exhib-It! Tradeshow Marketing, also earned an Award of Merit in Interactive Media for their Exhib-It! campaign.

The Nvent Marketing Partnership, UNM Anderson School marketing students led by John Benavidez, earn a Compass in the Student Categories in Integrated Marketing and Television Advertising for the Susan G. Komen campaign, and in Outdoor Advertising for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration campaign.

Vienna Creative accepts an Award of Merit in Special Event Marketing for their Project Acoustic campaign.

The delightfully talented Franc Chewiwie, a pianist and entertainer who is considered a legendary icon by many, will be performing to make the evening truly special.

Franc Chewiwie, well-known Native American celebrity and professional pianist, is a name associated with excellence and the best in musical entertainment. Franc founded the first band to play “Latin-American Tropical,” later known as “Salsa,” in New Mexico. Currently, Franc is the owner and manager of three bands in Albuquerque: a five-piece variety band, a Latin-Jazz trio, and a ten-piece band known as the Latin-Jazz All-Stars. He has been in show business and entertainment for over 25 years; playing in all the major venues in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, and performing in concerts for up to 15,000 people. Franc has been the featured entertainer at the Hotel Albuquerque in the chic Q-Bar Lounge since 2003.

Franc’s musical career spans the continent from California to New York and includes international appearances in Canada, Iceland, Venezuela, Mexico and more. Franc has appeared in concert with greats such as Jose Feliciano, Etta James, Selena, Cher, Wayne Newton and many others.

The Banquet will be hosted by veterans of the New Mexico social scene, Jim and John Garcia, our Masters of Ceremony. With strong business backgrounds and extensive management experience in the hospitality industry, together, they founded HospiTotally, an Albuquerque based consulting business that specializes in customer service applications. Together they are passionate about creating cultures of service excellence; constantly working to maintain and improve customer service in any business culture…they are the service experts!

John is the former Cabinet Secretary in New Mexico’s Departments of Tourism and Economic Development. As the manager of the New Mexico State Fair and the Senior Officer of Cultural Affairs, he and his brother shook up how business is done in government. He currently serves as the Director of Economic Development for the city of Albuquerque and recently accepted a Presidential Appointment to serve on the National Advisory Board for Historic Preservation.

Jim, like John, started in the Hospitality industry working for Bennigan’s and Olive Garden Restaurants. Jim currently oversees operations at El Pinto Restaurant, one of the nations largest single restaurant operations in the country. Also, Jim partners as the destination management business for Hyatt Tamaya resort in New Mexico. Jim is recognized as “Mr. Hospitality”.
